5K/fun run organized to benefit Iraqi war veteran battling colon cancer

TREMONTON, Utah – Tyler Nielsen has endured his fair share of lumps in recent months.

In May he lost his job at ATK. While jogging in July, he developed stomach pain that led to a colonoscopy. Within a short time the 30-year-old husband and father was shocked to learn he had been diagnosed with stage-4 colon cancer. In the days that followed he has undergone surgery and many days in a hospital bed.

Due to the extensive spreading of cancer in his colon and stomach, the former Iraqi War veteran is now facing a grueling uphill battle. In order to deal with the extremely high cost of his treatment expenses, Tyler and his little family need help.

With faith and hope in a miracle, Tyler is undergoing chemotherapy while his wife Alicia, family, and friends labor to generate support. A 5K/fun run is currently being organized for Nov. 20 in Tremonton. The event will begin and end at Jeanie Stevens Park (650 North 1000 West) at 8 a.m.

Participants in both the 5K and one-mile fun run will receive a T-shirt and wristband. Refreshments will also be provided. Cost for the 5K is $25 and the fun run is $15.

All funds raised by the event will go to benefit Tyler’s medical expenses and to promote Colon Cancer Awareness.
